Why would you choose the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G.?
The Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. is a sparkling wine produced exclusively in the hilly area between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, located 50 km from Venice and 100 km from the Dolomites, coming from the Glera vine. The acronym D.O.C.G. stands for “Controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin”, a recognition obtained in 2009 that allowed this type of wine to be fully included in the elite of Great Italian Wines.
For Valdobbiadene the “G” of guaranteed is a lot more than just an extra letter. It is the recognition for the years of work that went into establishing excellent quality levels in every stage of production. A unique product that is the synthesis between tradition, mild climate and a land, characterized by high hill vineyards with steep slopes difficult to cultivate.
Its high-elevation hill vineyards are on steep slopes where it’s even a job to stand upright without falling. This makes mechanical cultivation all but impossible, so vineyards are principally worked by small vine growers with a tradition of family management. Because of this, the hills appear ’handembroidered’ by the growers’ artisan expertise.
A sign of the uniqueness of these places is the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, obtained in July 2019, representing today the 55th Italian site to be protected and safeguarded for the peculiarity of its cultural landscape.
Unlike Prosecco, Prosecco D.O.C.G. is controlled and regulated by precise restrictive rules that regulate the origin of the grapes, the yield per hectare and all phases of the production process. Before it is placed on the market, it is analysed by a committee of oenologists who determine the suitability of the product.
Prosecco D. O. C. G. can be recognized by its vital elegance, light straw colour, moderate body, exclusive fruity and floral scent. A versatile sparkling wine, which thanks to its four types Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry and Dry, can accompany lunches and dinners from aperitif to dessert.
It is easily recognizable by the State band, which bears a number that makes it unique and traceable, along with the name and logo of the designation.
Through an extraordinary history, Conegliano Valdobbiadene has built the success of Prosecco D. O. C. G. over time, creating an Italian style of drinking that is modern, informal and cheerful, appreciated and loved all over the world.
